Impact in Action.

Many vulnerable children, especially those with disabilities, depend on centres like the Respite Care Centre. These centres provide education, care, food and a safe place to stay.

However, as the number of children in need continues to grow and resources become more limited, it is increasingly difficult for these centres to provide daily support.

Recently, Healthy Heart Organization (H2O) helped connect compassionate individuals with those in need. Food items were handed over to the Respite Care Centre, donated by family and friends in Canada and the USA, led by Angela Abizera.

Although this support cannot meet every challenge, it provides meaningful relief and demonstrates how people can make a difference when they work together.

This effort is not only about giving food. It highlights how communities grow stronger when people care for one another.

Even small acts can bring hope, protect dignity and remind those in need that they are not alone.

Everyone has a role to play. People can contribute through food, clothing, money, skills, time or encouragement.

Healthy Heart Organization is ready to connect those who want to help with vulnerable communities in Dzaleka and beyond.

When people come together, no one has to face challenges alone.

"I joined EduBridge Africa because I wanted to learn computer skills and prepare for a better future. Before joining the programme, I had no experience with computers or how to use them," said Audrey, a Digital Skills Programme student.

With the support of her facilitator, Audrey has gained confidence and improved her computer skills. She can now confidently use a computer and apply the basic skills she has learned.

With the skills she is gaining, Audrey is now able to pursue better opportunities and work towards her goal of becoming a medical doctor.

The Digital Skills Programme, implemented by Healthy Heart Organization through the EduBridge Africa Initiative, equips young people with practical computer skills.

The programme is designed not only to build digital literacy but also to empower participants to share their knowledge with others.

By providing hands-on learning opportunities, the initiative helps young people become more independent, pursue their dreams and achieve their goals regardless of their background.

On April 5th, 2025, Healthy Heart Organization proudly hosted its third Youth Talk session of 2025 at the Plan Malawi Wellness Center in the Dzaleka Refugee Camp.

This powerful gathering was dedicated to training youth on building and maintaining healthy relationships — whether romantic, family-related, or friendships. The quality of our relationships directly impacts our productivity and success as young leaders.

The event kicked off with inspiring opening remarks by Japhet Chris Rugema, Executive Director of Healthy Heart Organization, who welcomed everyone and set a warm tone for the day. The youth participants then introduced themselves and shared the impactful work they are doing in their communities.

The highlight of the session was the dynamic discussion led by guest speaker Vafa Hakimi. Vafa captured everyone's attention with an engaging icebreaker before diving deep into what it truly means to have a healthy relationship.

The youth actively participated, expressing their thoughts and concerns, with many discussions revolving around romantic relationships.

One key learning point was the introduction to the Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman, which Vafa explained beautifully. Understanding these love languages, combined with strong communication, was emphasized as the foundation of healthy relationships.

As the conversation evolved, it became clear that this was just the beginning. The youth expressed a strong desire to continue exploring this important topic, as time ran out while many were still eager to engage.

In response, Vafa suggested that Healthy Heart Organization consider planning a series of Youth Talk sessions to dive deeper into different types of relationships and the challenges they might face.

Over 50 youth participated, and they left empowered to build stronger relationships and communities.

Through the organisation’s ongoing chess training sessions, children have been guided step by step to understand strategy, patience and discipline.

In their most recent games, these young learners demonstrated what they have learned — sharing techniques, thinking independently and supporting one another.

The matches were full of smiles and fun, showing how much the children have grown. As they played, they reflected on their progress and learned new ways to improve.

Thanks to the Healthy Heart Organization’s chess programme, the children are now confident and excited to share their skills with others.

On 12 March 2026, we had the honor of welcoming Susan Musa Namangala, former President of the Chess Association in Malawi and founder of Dadaz Chess Academy, to Healthy Heart Organization.

She visited our Next Move Project, a youth initiative that uses chess to strengthen mental health, psychosocial wellbeing and life skills among young people in Dzaleka Refugee Camp, Malawi.

Through chess, youth develop critical thinking, patience, planning and decision-making while learning how these lessons apply to real life.

The project also integrates reflection and discussion sessions that help young people build resilience, emotional control and confidence.

During the visit, Madam Susan generously donated three chess boards and discussed the possibility of partnership to strengthen chess development in Dzaleka.

She encouraged the children to see chess not only as a game but as a connector of opportunities and personal growth.

Her message to the youth was powerful: “Remember, the pawn can become the queen.”

She reminded them that their current situation does not define their future and added, “The move you have made does not matter. What matters is your next move.”

Madam Susan was accompanied by a team from Mundo Negro: Revista Missional Africana from Spain and the Jesuit Refugee Service team in Malawi.

We are grateful for their visit and their encouragement to continue using chess as a tool for youth empowerment and mental health support.

Despite many challenges, and in a world where young people often lack safe and positive spaces, Healthy Heart Organization (H2O) continues to believe in nurturing leadership, resilience and hope.

Recently, H2O hosted a youth movie screening in Dzaleka Refugee Camp, bringing together 45 young people for a fun and meaningful weekend activity.

Through the film Camp Cool Kids and a guided discussion, participants reflected on teamwork, accountability, perseverance and positive decision-making.

The session created a safe and inclusive space for learning, connection and growth, leaving many youths inspired and eager for more activities like these.

Small actions like these help shape confident, responsible and empowered young leaders for tomorrow.

Twenty-eight youth in Dzaleka Refugee Camp came together for a transformative movie screening hosted by Healthy Heart Organization (H2O) under its Professional Life Coaching Programme.

The film Leaked was chosen for its powerful message on personal responsibility, peer pressure and the influence of digital technology.

After the screening, participants engaged in a guided reflection session, connecting the lessons of the film to their own lives.

“We need to take responsibility for our mistakes. One bad day does not mean that all days will be bad,” emphasized Japhet, Founder and Life Coach at H2O.

Koko, one of the participants, reflected that the film showed how difficult situations can still lead to a new beginning and a new vision of ourselves.

At H2O, we believe in creating safe and engaging spaces where youth can learn, grow and build resilience for a brighter future.

The Healthy Heart Organization successfully conducted a seminar on financial literacy themed “Are You a Hunter or Gardener?” on May 31, 2025, at Integrity Family Church in Dzaleka.

The event aimed to empower attendees with the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve financial independence and reach their financial goals.

A total of 162 individuals participated in the seminar, which featured expert discussions and insights on financial management and planning.

Through interactive sessions and presentations, attendees gained a deeper understanding of how to cultivate healthy financial habits and make informed decisions about their financial resources.

The “Hunter or Gardener” theme served as a metaphor for two distinct approaches to financial management, encouraging participants to reflect on their own financial strategies and adopt more effective and sustainable practices.

The Healthy Heart Organization’s initiative to promote financial literacy aligns with its mission to support community development and well-being.
